Meet Dr. Flinkstrom
Dr. Flinkstrom obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University in May 1983. He founded his practice under the name Lunenburg Veterinary Mobile Facility in October 1983. His goal was to provide quality veterinary care in a house call and farm call setting. As time went by, more and more clients were seen at the Flinkstrom family's home, in the kitchen, and in the garage.
In June, 1988, Lunenburg Veterinary Hospital had its grand opening in its present location. For a couple years in the early '90's, there were two veterinarians, Dr. Flinkstrom, and an associate. After losing the second veterinarian due to a family relocation, Dr. Flinkstrom has been a solo practitioner, having office hours 5 days a week, evening hours 3 nights a week, and on-call emergency duty 7 days a week.
Clients of Lunenburg Veterinary Hospital enjoy a one-on-one, personal relationship with their pet's veterinarian, which is hard to come by nowadays. Also, many of his patients are exotic pets whose owners would otherwise have to travel far to find a veterinarian interested in dealing with peculiar species.
Since 1983, Dr. Flinkstrom has maintained federal and state permits to rehabilitate wildlife, and has treated well over 50 species of native New England fauna brought in by the general public, animal control officers, Environmental Police, and other law enforcement officers. The state does not allow wildlife rehabilitators, even those with a veterinary license, to charge for services to wildlife. All costs associated with wildlife care at Lunenburg Veterinary Hospital that are not covered by donations come out of the doctor's pocket. Donations for wildlife rehabilitation are gratefully accepted, as the treatment costs often exceed those of client-owned animals.
Dr. Flinkstrom has a wife, Teresa, who has been the practice manager from the beginning. Together they have four children, Arthur and Sean McGee, and Alex and Evan Flinkstrom.
