Accreditation

Dr. Flinkstrom is licensed to practice veterinary medicine, dentistry, and surgery in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the state of New Hampshire.

He is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture - Animal Plant Health Inspection Service - Veterinary Services (USDA - APHIS - VS) to write health certificates for the interstate and international movement of animals, and to act as an agent of the federal government in protecting the nation's livestock health and safety.

Since 1983, Dr. Flinkstrom has maintained federal and state wildlife rehabilitation permits, and has been instrumental in applying medical and surgical skills to the area's wildlife population.  Wildlife rehabilitators are not allowed to charge for services rendered to wildlife, but donations are gratefully accepted, as the time, effort, and difficulty of dealing with wildlife species often exceeds that of veterinary care for pets, and without the help of the concerned public, all expenses come out of the doctor's pocket.

The doctor is licensed by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to handle all legal controlled substances, many of which are necessary for adequate pain control and anesthesia.  Meticulous records are kept and many safeguards are utilized, such as keeping controlled substances under lock and key at all times, and maintaining alarm systems to prevent the diversion of controlled substances away from its intended use.

Lunenburg Veterinary Hospital Direct Dynamic Safety, a medical and occupational safety company, to ensure compliance with OSHA laws and other laws such as the American Disability Act.  This is done voluntarily at a considerable expense to the practice, but it means that our employees are trained in safety procedures that protect them, you, and your pet from accidents, injury, and illnesses shared by animals and man.
